Every summer, Tutrakan celebrates one of its most beloved fruits – the apricot! And with good reason. The region is the largest apricot producer in Bulgaria, earning its proud title “Capital of the Apricot.” The fertile Dobruja soil, the gentle influence of the Danube, and the long-standing expertise of local growers turn the fruit into a true delight. Here, the sweet and healthy apricot is honored, transformed into countless treats – and, of course, the famous apricot rakia.
The festival date each year is carefully aligned with the harvest. Producers usually finish picking between late June and early July, and that’s when the time comes to celebrate the abundant yield.
During the festival you can taste different apricot varieties, homemade jams, cakes, pastries, liqueurs, and aromatic rakia. Growers, chefs and enthusiasts compete in several contests, while visitors are welcome to try everything. The delicious atmosphere is enriched by music shows and children’s entertainment. When the jury announces the winners, the whole square falls silent to hear the names of the new masters of fruit growing, culinary craft, and the traditional apricot spirit.
Taste Tutrakan’s sweetness and enjoy the Apricot Festival!
